ABOUT
Teacher and founder of Michelle Lane Musical Theatre Studio, Michelle Lane, is a contemporary voice teacher and Stanislavsky based acting coach. She has a BFA in Musical Theatre from the University of Arizona (which was 3rd in the nation when she attended). She helped build the curriculum for the 7-9th grade musical theatre and acting classes for OSCA's 2nd Performing Arts school: The California School of the Arts - San Gabriel Valley for their inaugural year in the Integrated Arts program. She also worked alongside high school pal, Bill Garrett (Theater teacher/director, Calabasas High School) vocal directing in the first several seasons of Calabasas Summer Theater. She continues to work with the students of Calabasas High School (renowned for their award-winning theater arts program) as the resident vocal coach for their main stage musicals in the beautiful, Las Virgenes Performing Arts Education Center (PAEC). It has been incredibly rewarding to be able to work and give back at her alma mater.
TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
Through song analysis and the Stanislavski method of acting, Michelle's focus in teaching vocal performance is not only based on technique, but in examining the underbelly of the song.
"If the objective is strong, along with clear internal beats and intentions, it influences the way a song is sung. I don't just teach singing; I teach how to dissect and analyze a song and live through the piece! Throughout my professional career, I have been exposed to and managed to cultivate a variety of vocal techniques from teachers on both coasts, and mostly influenced by John Henny through his voice academy training. Having so many different kinds of teachers, has enabled me to customize each lesson to meet the specific vocal needs of every individual student. I strive to achieve one sound by mixing all the resonators and understanding how to use them in chest and head voice to create one consistent, powerful, and clear sound." - Michelle Lane
BIO
Michelle has found a passion for teaching that has made her as happy as performing does. She made her Broadway debut closing AVENUE Q at the Golden Theatre and was a part of the original Las Vegas company of Avenue Q. Immediately after Q, she found herself following Bobby Lopez to his new venture in Orlando recreating Dory for the stage in Finding Nemo the Musical. The first piece EGOT award winners Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez wrote together before their next venture: FROZEN. Michelle is an Ovation Award Winner for her performance in the West Coast Premiere of Swing! at Musical Theatre West. She has worked on both coast and many cities in between and has made a career of performing over the last 20+ years. Michelle is also a proud mama!
